Memories (7) House on Fire (2)

I have created some edits from the photos that I had collected from the photo album. At first, I have only edited a few of the images in Photoshop as a starting point to give me some inspiration as I feel that I may end up creating another video piece or photo montage for my final piece.

I have overlaid the same image multiple times and either turned one layer 180 degrees or flipped it onto its original. I have also just slightly shifted the second layer so that the image is only slightly distorted. I adjusted the way each was overlaid also to give different final effects. I think that by overlaying the images, it just shows even more how much damage and how many belongings of my family and I, had to be throw out onto the front of the house.

I feel that these inverted edits are very successful because of two reasons. One, a lot of detail is able to stand out due to the contrast of the black against the white and grey, and two, is the fact that they both seem surreal and can almost be described as how you would dream or how you think back on events. I feel that these 2 photos in particular describe in the best of terms what I see when I look back into the past to my "memories".

I think that each original image is a work of art in its own right, without having any editing done to it because of the story that is told through them and how these photos are all that is left of mine and my family's evidence of that day. I thought that I would keep the last 2 edits quite simple and I have added the slightest bit of smoke to overlay as though these photos had been left on the floor as the fire was being put out and all that was left was smoke.
